Oh God this reminds me of the time in my neuroscience class we had to read and review a paper that tried to explain the function of gene linked to autism by deleting or partially deleting it in flies and then monitoring how they initiated mating.
They hypothesized that the gene which was often mutated or deleted in autistic people helps suppress socially inappropriate behavior and socially inappropriate behavior could be modelled in flies with how often they were 'initiating mating with members of the same sex'
After getting over the ableism and homophobia all I could think of was the fact that the edited (gay) flies had more sex and that someone had to watch the flies have sex because the study also documented how successful mating initiations were
maybe a better question to ask is whether we SHOULD

My absolute fav dwarf shrimp - Indian zebra shrimp. They have a ton of variety, even in my colony. Some are more bluish, some more red, some have bright orange eyes.
Even though they’re a caridina species, they’re super easy to keep. They do great in the same water parameters as cherry shrimp. Super underrated shrimp

🐠 Daily Fish Fact: 🐠
Zebra Batfish are a solitary species, but may be infrequently encountered as pairs or in small groups. The small juveniles can be found in deeper water where their zebra-like striping camouflages them when they shelter among crinoids.

Zebra sharks got their name from the stripes they have as pups which become spots when they become adults.
